About Zinc Gluconate

Zinc gluconate plays a key role in sustaining normal functioning of the immune system. It inhibits the survival and replication of different viruses which have the effect of suppressing human health and also contributing to illnesses. Alongside eliminating various disease-causing organisms, zinc gluconate also aids in activation of specific immune system cells. It also helps in maintaining healthy and normal skin, hair and nails. The skin is able to stay free of breakouts and rashes. Also, in the case of injury on the skin, it is able to recover quite fast. Zinc gluconate tablets are beneficial to people of all age groups including children. For toddlers, it helps them have smooth skin as they are able to stay away from diaper rash and the irritation that comes with it. Also, the tablets aid is maintaining supple and soft hair. By extension, premature hair loss is avoided. Also, the nails become firmer, appear shiny and healthy as well. Zinc gluconate is recommended for use by vegans and vegetarians. The latter need higher amounts of zinc in their bodies hence can supplement them from zinc gluconate tablets; most zinc is sourced from meat sources, which they do not take.

Zinc gluconate is a water-soluble zinc compound that is taken into the human body through supplement form i.e. powder, tablet, capsule or solution form. The amount of zinc contained in the compounds averages between 13-17%. Zinc gluconate tablets are highly bioavailable since they are absorbed into the bloodstream quite fast. Zinc gluconate contains relative amounts of gluconic acid which plays a key role in sustaining enzyme activity within the human body. Zinc is second to iron among all minerals contained in the human body. The need to supplement arises from the high body requirements for the mineral. This deliverable form of zinc is insoluble in certain solvents e.g. ethanol.

Zinc gluconate has a high half-life of about 1 year. Most zinc compounds have a mild bitter metallic taste with a pungent smell as well. Most of them are masked and sweetened to make them easily consumable e.g. flavoured syrups. The body has minimal ability to store zinc and its compounds in the body, hence the need for constant supplementation. The little zinc that is stored occurs in the skeletal and bone tissue. Among the greatest food sources of zinc and its compounds are seafood and nuts. The seafood includes lobsters, crabs and oysters. Other rich sources of the same include liver, poultry, fish, dairy products, soy oysters, fortified cereals and ginger. Naturally, gluconic acid is mostly obtained from the fermentation of glucose. The compound is white to off-white in colour and occurs in powder form. The earliest written records of zinc gluconate date back to the 20th century. In 1984, the compound was consumed under the name lozenges (zinc gluconate glycine) mostly by people who were experiencing colds. Those who used the compound experienced raising energy levels at a time when they felt like their body was shutting down. Zinc gluconate was used interchangeably with zinc acetate.
