About Green Coffee Bean Extract

Green coffee extract is obtained from unroasted coffee beans scientifically referred to as Coffea Arabica. The extract has a relatively mild odour that resembles that of herbal green tea. It harbours a moderately bitter taste as well. The extract is hygroscopic in nature therefore it is preferably stored in an enclosed space. The colour of green coffee extract ranges between green and subtle yellow. The extract is obtained from grinding coffee beans which are first soaked in water. The outcome of this is reduced caffeine levels for the green coffee beans. The seeds are dried naturally and then ground to produce pure green coffee powder. In industrial production, the green coffee beans are treated using carbon dioxide. Organic solvents are then used to derive the extract from the treated coffee beans. Green coffee extract is preferred due to its raw and more natural constitution of phytonutrients. The nutrients contained in the unroasted green coffee beans are different from the roasted brown coffee beans, especially chlorogenic acid levels. The reduced chlorogenic acid levels make it less bitter as well. Also it has lesser caffeine levels. It is popular amongst individuals who prefer a different flavour than the smoky one given by roasted coffee beans. It is also quite popular among vegans and those who prefer gluten-free products and those seeking to lose weight.

Coffee extract has a rich history that dates back to over 1,000 years. The coffee that is used for green coffee extract was first cultivated around the Arabian Peninsula. Before the natives discovered they could derive an extract from the beans. In East Africa, where the extract has been in use for centuries, the natives had different ways of consuming the extract. Ethiopians are among the first individuals to popularize the extract in Africa. Western Ethiopia has ideal climatic conditions for growth of the Arabica coffee species. The extract was used a food additive after the coffee beans were ground. For centuries natives along the Horn of Africa have been consuming coffee beans extract. They crushed raw coffee beans and then boiled the extract to come up with a drink they considered exotic. Other people would mix the extract with water and then ferment the moisture to come up with wine. They would take the latter mostly during special occasions e.g. weddings, burials etc. For certain people, it was occasionally mixed with animal fat until the mixture became uniform. The latter, which introduced a mild flavour to the food, was then used in thickening stews, among other recipes.

Green coffee extract, from unroasted coffee beans, has become popular over the last couple of years. Most people include it in their diet as they take on different types of strenuous activities that require huge amounts of energy e.g. jogging, hiking etc. The athletes are able to sustain regular body metabolism and blood sugar levels even in different environmental settings. Green coffee extract was further popularized by Dr. Mehmet Oz. In 2012, he embarked on journey where he worked with individuals who intended to lose weight. The extract formed a important part of their weight loss regime. The individuals in context added the extract to their smoothies and juices. The use of green coffee bean for weight loss exploded due to this and has been very popular ever since.
